Art Dump!

I finally bought a new scanner after the rabbits made a chew toy out of my old.  RIP Epson Scanner from the early 2000′s.  I now have a shiny new Epson Perfection Photo 330 or something, which I hope will be with me as long as my last scanner.

Anyway these means that I can now scan things again which means I’m posting four Cat/People pictures I drew/painted around mid-June.  They spent most of July being displayed at the UC Davis Craft Center Art Gallery and I even got a little image in the Sacramento News and Review.  I am also bad about telling anyone about showings these days, so hardly anyone that I know saw it.  :P

Also are some bad photos I took of the Grave Titan I made for Kenny.  The Grave Titan is a Magic: The Gathering card and as the image to the left demonstrates, it is large and has zombies falling out of it.  From what I was told, if you have Grave Titan in play, two zombies fall out of him each turn.  Even though the photos suck, I’m real happy with the way he turned out and learned a few things if I should ever attempt to make something similar in the future.

So there you go, some art on what is supposedly a website for art.

August Resolution Update

This past month feels almost lamer than last month.  Is it the summer daydreaming that’s getting in the way of self betterment?

1.  I’m so bad at keeping up consistent flossing.  I think reading and sewing is distracting me to the point where I get so sleepy that even brushing my teeth seems like the biggest chore.  I need to make a routine of brushing teeth and flossing before I settle into a night of reading and sewing.

2.  I like running/exercising in the morning, but recently discovered that my hair looks pretty awesome if I take a bath/shower at night.  So I’ve been doing some DVD workouts in the afternoons of shower days, but it’s probably a lot less than I should be doing.

3.  Vitamins are a little better, but not to every night standards.

4.  Debt is currently at $8079, which is $45 higher than it was last month.  I had a mini-relapse in the credit card use, but managed to pay back most of it so I haven’t ended up too off track.  Ugh, I so hate this debt.  Majority of it was from when I was in college and that’s now 5 years past I don’t even remember most of what I bought with it.  Most of it is probably been resold or thrown away. Dumb.

5.  Let’s not even talk about toe touching today.

6.  The book reading resolution seems to be the only that I actually accomplished anything on this month.  1 out of 6 is pretty bad…  Anyway, I read 8 more books.  Majority were young adult/teen. 21/25 read, which makes this my most achievable resolution.  Go me?

I liked Kraken a lot and am interested in reading more from China Miéville.  Among Others was interesting although the narrator was annoying at times, but that might be because I don’t really want to hear about all the feelings of the teenage protagonist.  I already that shit in real life!  :P   Things Fall Apart was the most academic I’ve gotten in awhile with reading.  Pretty Little Liars, Flawless, Perfect, and Unbelievable are the first four books in the Pretty Little Liar series and finish off the first mysterious person that the four teens encounter.  These were my major bath time reads and very quick to finish.  Finally I read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which I enjoyed, but was expecting a completely different type of story.  I wanted something creepier and this definitely didn’t deliver that.

Friday I’m In Love – Bath Time!

I know it’s not Friday and it’s almost Sunday now, but considering I missed last Friday due to traveling down south to LA for visits with awesome friends and some Harry Potter action, I thought I should make the effort to get something up before this week officially ends.

Lately I have been all about baths.  I’ve been taking one whenever I have at least an hour to just soak.  It’s amazing and I wish I could do it every day.

I wasn’t using anything in my baths until I decided this last weekend to finally grab a bath bomb from Lush.  They’re a bit pricey, but if you get one of the larger ones and cut it into halves, thirds, or quarters, you can get more than one use out of them.  They make the bath smell wonderful and soften the skin while you soak.

I have tried the Butterball, Sakura and just picked up the Blackberry.  I like the Butterball more than the Sakura.  The dry Blackberry smells great so I’m excited to try it out either tomorrow night or Monday morning.

The last thing a bath needs is a “good” book.  This book does not need to be a paragon of good literature and I’ve found that I’m better off finding something engaging and fluffy.

This is where the Pretty Little Liars series comes in.  All this bath taking has already got me through 3 books and currently working through the 4th.  I had watched a few episodes of the show, so there are things I recognized, but things are different enough that I haven’t found it a detriment to the plot.

I’m a little embarrassed to be so engrossed with what amounts to trashy lit for teens, but it’s written in an easy manner that makes it a breeze to read and just enough intrigue to make me curious.  My Kindle is going to look like it belongs to a 16 year old before long.

The take away here is that I love to spend a hour in nice smelling baths, reading silly books aimed at teenagers.

Giveaway at Supahcute!

Supahcute is turning 3 on the 8th and she’s doing a giveaway of some goodies she picked up at SDCC.

Check out her post on the giveaway for information on how to enter and for what exactly those adorable object in the picture are.

Even when she’s not giving anything away, you should be checking out the site because there is always new information about art, toys and anything else that can be cute, especially events in the LA area.  Reading her posts sometimes cause some serious envy, but that’s only because I’m about 6 hours too far away for the events.  It’s my own fault for not being closer.  :P

Friday I’m In Love – California State Fair

Another year and another State Fair!  I didn’t take many photos, but here are my three favorites from today.

Last year there were large animatronic dinosaurs and this year it was giant animatronic bugs and crawlies.  This snail wasn’t moving, but it was one of the more awesome guys hanging out.

This is deep fried kool aid.  They mix the kool aid into the batter and then it’s fried into ball shapes.  They tasted like kool aid donuts.  A good fair food.

You can’t really tell scale from this picture, but this is a Flemish Giant rabbit and it’s laying on top of another slightly smaller Flemish Giant.  After seeing these buns today, I really want one!  They were so chill and big and I just one to hang out with on the floor.

Sorry this entry kind of sucks.  Pretty worn out from the day and this is what I could muster as commentary.

Kickstarter – Womanthology; Massive All Female Comic Anthology!

Just heard about the Womanthology; Massive All Female Comic Anthology! Kickstarter project and dedicated $50 from a credit card to the project.

The anthology will collect the work of 140 women creators from newbies to time-tested professionals.  Comics are often thought as a male orientated industry, which DC didn’t do much to address when directly asked during Comic Con, but this will be a showcase of the female talent that does exist.

They have already surpassed their goal, but if you feel like throwing your support in the mix, get off this page and get over there!

Friday I’m In Love – Rotocasted, Tiny Showcase, Spoonflower

Today (which is now Saturday, but I swear I started writing this last night so it still counts as a Friday post) I’m going to share some cool websites that I like to spend my time on.

I’ve mentioned it before, but if you’re collecting designer toys, you need to get on Rotocasted.com!  It’s an amazing user generated database for art toys and it’s pretty complete.  If you have something and it’s not on there, take a picture and make a new entry.  Not only can you create a visual list of your collection, but you can make a wishlist too for all those pieces you covet or plan on buying.  There isn’t a way right now to have a friend list type thing, but if you want to check out my collection, click here!

Tiny Showcase is a wonderful site that does exactly what the title indicates: they have tiny showcase of one limited edition print from one artist every week.  The cost of a print is generally around $20-$30 and a portion of the sales goes to a charity chosen by the artist.  It’s a neat little idea that helps bring exposure to artists, bring affordable art to the masses and bring a little cash to good causes.  If I was a richer person, I would be spending a lot more money on this site than I already have.

If you’re feeling crafty and looking for new fabric prints, definitely check out Spoonflower.  They have user created prints which can be ordered on a variety of different fabrics for use in any kind of sewing project you can imagine.  I have a dream that one day I will upholster a living room set in a variety of squid prints.
